TENBURY United have one hand on the title, with a win at rivals Woofferton on Saturday enough to seal the Herefordshire League Division One crown with two games to play.

And there will be no complacency heading to the key fixture with the league’s fourth-placed side, insists manager Aaron Morris, following last weekend’s shock draw 1-1 against Holme Lacy.

Just the second time his side has dropped points all season, Morris watched as a “freak” goal struck from inside the Holme Lacy half bounced over his keeper.

“It might be the kick we needed,” said Morris, who knows victory on Saturday would knock their sole challengers Wooferton, who currently have five games in hand, out of the race.

“The boys were disappointed – we are not used to not winning matches.”

Morris was among several regulars not to start the game, as he returns from quad strain.

Dale Withers and George Pearson were notable absentees, while Morris came off the bench in the closing stages to hit both the woodwork and the side-netting.

However Tenbury were unable to improve on striker Ian Patterson’s goal – stabbed in from close range after the home side failed to clear a corner.

Morris’ side eased home 4-2 winners over Wooferton in October, but he knows there is far more riding on this weekend’s clash.

He said: “We want to win the league this weekend.

“I’ll get around on the texts and at training – I want to make sure the boys are aware of what’s at stake.”

Should they get the win, Morris added, the team will be in for a double celebration, with plans to toast Lee Millichip’s upcoming nuptials.
