Morris hits the target again but United close season with a defeat
Heath Town 2 Tenbury United 1.
TENBURY rounded off their Sport Italia West Midlands Regional League Division 2 campaign with a narrow defeat at Heath Town on Saturday.
There was little to play for except an eighth-place finish because both sides went into the game with 33 points. The first half was goalless but the home side edged home in the second period.
There were only limited chances during a tightly-contested first half, although Ian George managed to hit the post and Ryan Morris had a shot saved for United.
The home team broke the deadlock soon after the turnaround. A telling through ball caught the United defence flat-footed and their winger fired the ball past Alex Bright.
Tenbury were back on level terms within seconds of the restart. The home defence partially cleared a Duncan Palmer corner and Aaron Morris stabbed the ball home when it was played back into the danger area.
The second half was spoilt for the visitors when an assistant referee pulled them up for offside on three occasions when the home side played the ball back to their own keeper.
Bright cleared one dangerous one-on-one situation, but was unable to clear his lines minutes later when another dangerous ball was played across the penalty area. The home striker beat him comfortably with a measured shot.
Tenbury struggled to put the home defence under pressure in the closing stages, and the game drifted towards the final whistle. The side will now take a welcome break after a trying season, that has seen their already-depleted squad incur a number of injury problems.
