Ludlow hit back with big away win

Shrewsbury 15pts Ludlow 49.

LUDLOW bounced back from last weekend's narrow defeat, to record a resounding away win against county rivals Shrewsbury and keep the pressure on second-placed Stoke in Midlands 3 West North.

They started well, running in three tries to lead 15-0. Winger Dan Rawlings went around his opposite number to open the scoring. His brother Tom picked the ball up from a set-piece and drilled his way over for the second and then Matthew Ferguson did the same for the third.

Ludlow went off the boil and Shrewsbury were back in the game after scoring a penalty and a try under the posts. They added the conversion to make the score 10-15. Back came Ludlow to restore their cushion with tries either side of the break.

Ludlow forced a scrum close to the home line and number eight, Marc Gaubert picked up and crashed over the line before the half time whistle, then young winger Charlie Hurt weaved his way over after the restart. Mark Williams beat the windy conditions to add the conversion.

The home team scored an unconverted try but the visitors finished strongly to score four more tries. Richard Wozencroft was set clear on half way and galloped over to start the blitz.

Tom Rawlings bulldozed his way over for a second try and Mark Williams was on target with the conversion. Full back Joe Doyle and substitute Dave Pugh completed the scoring.

A mixed second/third XV completed a double, beating their Shrewsbury counterparts 34-22. James Charters led the way with 21 pts (two tries, three pens, one con).
