Tenbury lose again but Charlie’s return inspires improved performance
Tenbury 8 pts Keresley 42.
TENBURY produced a much better performance in their Midlands 5 West South fixture with third-placed Keresley at Palmer's Meadow.
But missed tackles cost them dearly and they still conceded six tries.
The visitors' kicker was in top form, converting all of them.
Tenbury started well and forced the pace in the early stages. They might have given themselves an early boost, but Rickie Evans was off target with a couple of kickable penalty attempts.
Keresley took the lead with a converted try, but back came the home side, this time Evans found the target with a third penalty attempt to reduce the deficit.
The visitors ran in two more tries before the break, but Tenbury had their moments as well. Skipper Ian Bowkett was held up over the line during one attack. Kerseley led 21-3 at the break.
Another lapse of concentration at the start of the second half gifted the visitors a fourth try. With Charlie Ferneyhough returning to the side after injury and suspension in the second half, Tenbury did not caved in.
Good vision by Evans led to winger Steven Parry scoring his maiden first-team try. The full-back was filling in at fly-half on the 10-metre line when he spotted space on the flank, and launched the ball across field for Parry to gather in and score. The conversion attempt was missed.
The visitors scored two more tries, but Tenbury still had their chances, especially when Will Morgan was just short of making a touchdown.
This weekend Tenbury make one of their shorter league trips to take on Dudley Wasps.
