Injury-time goals bring third consecutive victory as United ride their luck
Tenbury United 2 Mahal 0.
TWO goals deep into injury time gave Tenbury their third win on the trot in Division Two of the Sport Italia West Midlands League but it was a lucky three points for the home team.
With United hampered by injuries and unavailability, Graham Caldicott and Ian George were in the starting line-up. There were more injuries during the game, the worst of which ended with player/manager Colin Powell being carried off in the second half having suffered a knee ligament injury, a repeat of an injury he suffered some time ago.
The home side did not get out of second gear and were lucky not to go behind. Without playing well themselves, Mahal had the better chances and struck the woodwork in the first half.
Keeper Alex Bright just got his fingers to the ball to divert it on to the post and, along with fellow defender Gavin Podmore, was one of the few players to catch the eye.
Both teams were settling for a point when the game suddenly exploded into life during a lengthy spell of added time.
The decent crowd were finally treated to some excitement on a bitterly cold day when Ashley Botwood played a long ball into the box and Chay Bishop turned it over the line after the Mahal keeper had missed it.
Mahal pushed forward, but were promptly caught out when Paul Smith played Ross Oliver through. Oliver put the ball between a defender's legs and fired it into the back of the net to seal the win.
This weekend Tenbury play hosts to Black Country Rangers at Palmer's Meadow.
