Players forced out at last minute
Ludlow Town 1 Shawbury 1.
AFTER losing both of their central midfield players due to work commitments shortly before kick-off, Ludlow would have happily accepted a Sport Italia West Midlands League Premier Division point against their highly placed opponents, going into the game.
At the final whistle, however, they were disappointed to drop two points, after their rejigged side had battled it's way into a winning position, with the final whistle beckoning. Then the visitors attacked down the right hand side and crossed for Stuart Cornes to head in the equaliser, with less than five minutes to go.
The first half was evenly contested with both sides creating half chances, but in general the defences were in control. Ludlow's best chances fell to Marcus Sherrad and Marvin Joseph, who both went close.
Ollie Kesterton, who had done well filling in at midfield in the first half, had to be replaced by John Holsten after suffering concussion before the break.
Holsten settled in well, and the home side took the lead within ten minutes of the restart. Andy Pugh attacked down the right hand flank, took the ball to the deadball line, and pulled it back for Joseph to head in.
With the wind in their favour Town were able to play the ball over the top and get in behind the Shawbury defence.
At the other end of the pitch they defended quite well, but gave away a number of free kicks outside the box. With a lack of height in defence they looked vulnerable, but they survived until Shawbury struck their late equaliser, leaving Town to reflect on what might have been.
This weekend Town will entertain Bromyard Town.
