Disastrous finish brings derby loss
Ludlow Town 0 Bridgnorth 2.
TWO late goals and a sending off turned a useful performance into a disappointing outcome, as Ludlow lost to their local rivals and runaway leaders of the Sport Italia West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division in front of a big crowd at the SBS Stadium.
Town had the better of the first half and, with a bit more composure and luck in front of goal, might have taken the lead.
They played some good football and both Marcus Sherrad and Marvin Joseph found themselves in good goalscoring positions.
Sherrad, in particular, was unlucky to see one effort deflected, and had another well saved after cutting in from the left wing.
At the other end of the field, Bridgnorth, a big physical side, humped the ball forward and relied on picking up the second ball.
The Town defence coped well with the threat.
The visitors were more forceful in the second half but Ludlow were still on level terms when the game entered the final five minutes.
Another attribute of Bridgnorth is that they battle for the full 90 minutes and, on this occasion, it paid handsome dividends.
Bridgnorth forced a number of corners and, from one of them, Lewis Welch scrambled the ball home to give them the lead after 87 minutes.
Worse was to follow. Shaun Parker was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence, leaving 10-man Town to push forward in search of an equaliser. The inevitable happened, old boy Gareth Horler racing through to grab a second goal to seal the win.
