New signings help to revitalise Town

Ludlow Town 1 Wednesfield 1.

FOLLOWING four below-par displays, when they have been well below full-strength, Ludlow were able to field a stronger squad on Saturday.

Their performance, and the result, against fourth-placed Wednesfield, reflected this as they picked up a richly deserved West Midlands League Premier Division point.

Things did not start too well, though, slack defending allowing Wednesfield to take the lead in the 12th minute. Dan Mouser nipped in to finish in style.

Jack Keating was one-on-one with the keeper straight from the restart, but his opponent got a foot to the ball to prevent an equaliser. Ludlow kept plugging away and equalised on the half-hour mark, Andy Reeves crossed for Dan Tolley to fire home from 10 yards.

A lot of Town's recent problems have come in the second half where their performances had wilted under pressure. On this occasion, with new signings Ollie Kesterton and Marvin Joseph looking dangerous up front, it was the home side who applied the pressure.

They created several chances but failed to tuck them away, including one from Joseph in the last minute. He shot from close-range but the ball was cleared off the line.

Manager Chris Richards was pleased with the performance. After going into the game wondering where the next point was coming from, he said it was pleasing that the players were disappointed not to win.

In midweek, Town went down 6-1 at home to Dudley Town in the League Cup. Andy Pugh scored the consolation goal.
