Two-goal lead lost as Town hang on
Ludlow Town 2 Wolverhampton Casuals 2.
AFTER being in control of the game for over an hour, Ludlow were forced to hang on during the closing stages as the Casuals scored twice in 10 minutes to wipe out Town's deserved lead.
Missing more than half of their normal team due to various commitments, Town held out for the final five minutes to claim the Sport Italia West Midlands Regional League Premier Division point that they might well have settled for at the kick-off.
For a makeshift side, Ludlow played fluently in the first half, creating a number of good openings on the way, but only converted one of them, midway through.
Lee Roscoe started the move from right-back, played a long diagonal ball to Andy Reeves on the right. He made ground down the flank before sending in a low cross for Andy Pugh to turn in.
Pugh was a constant threat in the first half and, with steadier finishing, might have claimed a hat-trick. The visitors' main threat came from set-pieces where Town's lack of height left them struggling to cope with the aerial attacks.
It was all looking good in the second half when Andy Reeves played the ball across goal for Adam Snead to volley Ludlow into a two-goal lead.
They wasted other chances, however, and were made to pay the price in the closing stages as Casuals eventually used their height advantage to score from two corners and set up a tense finish.
Ludlow entertain Ellesmere at the SBS Stadium on Saturday and then travel to Shawbury the following Saturday.
