Tenbury Town just two wins from Herefordshire cup final

Weston 2 Tenbury Town 3.

TENBURY Town are just two wins away from a Herefordshire cup final.

Mark Boucker, Ashley Botwood and Chris Patton scored as Town marched into the quarter-finals of the HFA Junior Cup. “Beating Division Two Weston on paper appeared to be a difficult proposition, but we were by far the better side,” said a delighted Town spokesman, Carl Lambert.

Town will have to put their cup dreams to one side this Saturday when they travel to rivals Orleton Colts Reserves in Herefordshire League Division Three.

Boucker fired Town ahead against Weston after a fine pass from Botwood and the visitors deservedly doubled their advantage with a superb 30-yard strike from Botwood.

Higher-graded Weston reduced arrears on 35 minutes and levelled three minutes before the interval when Alex Lombardi conceded a penalty.

But Patton was Tenbury’s cup hero, racing on to a long ball and taking advantage of a defensive mistake to hit the winner with 15 minutes left.

“More chances came and went but we couldn't extend the lead, largely thanks to Weston’s keeper who produced a fine double save to deny Boucker,” said Lambert.

Spokesman Lambert praised some of Tenbury’s other star performers.

“Roger Dovey was superb at centre half and left-back Dean Morris is now looking confident after playing a few games and cementing his place.

“Gaz Edwards even had a few mazy runs into the opponents’ half and Steve Sumnar blocked the way with several sprints off his line to smother danger.”

Lambert added: “It was a satisfying afternoon in beautiful surroundings and we are now only two games away from a cup final at a leading Herefordshire ground.”
