Fathers and sons team up to win Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club's John Lacey Open

MORE than 120 golfers made the trip to Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club to take part in the John Lacey Memorial Texas Scramble Open.

“John Lacey was captain of the club in the late 1990s and helped make it what it is today,” said club spokesman Dave Pain. The competitors were rewarded with a sunny day after a cold start with plenty of prizes up for grabs after donations from local businesses and Lacey’s friends.

And, in the end, local knowledge played a part with a Cleobury team grabbing top spot as the fathers-and-sons combination of Ian and Jack Pringle and Rod and Alan Juckes performed miracles with 10 birdies to give them a score of 55.7. “John Lacey was a great friend of the club and helped make it what it is today,” said team captain Ian Pringle after collecting the cut glass trophy. “He is sadly missed and this event really does keep his legacy alive. It is an honour to win.”

Result: 1 Rod Juckes, Alan Juckes, Ian Pringle, Jack Pringle 55.7, 2 D Seabrook, D Dymond, J Skeen, AP Smith 57.2, 3 Dean Carpenter, Jamie Carpenter, Matt Marks, Mark Foster 57.9, 4 Dave Leach, Craig Shorter, Dave Shorter, Mark Shorter 58.4.
