Ludlow Amateur Boxing Club seek help from tradespeople with new build

LUDLOW Amateur Boxing Club are looking for help from local tradespeople to assist with building their new club.

Work is due to begin this week at the new facility in Wheeler Road that will also house a community room for use by other organisations and local people. Young boxers will be able to enjoy new modern training facilities, and coaches will be able to continue to work with an ever increasing number of male and female competitors. A successful community partnership between Shropshire Council, Ludlow Town Council and the Total Response arm of South Shropshire Housing Association has made the new boxing club possible. But Ludlow Town Clerk Veronica Calderbank said: “There is sufficient funding to put up a 250-square metre shell, but there is a need for ongoing support and expertise from local trades people who are able and willing to offer their skills for free or at a reduced rate for the benefit of the local community.”

Bricklayers with free time between October and December are urgently needed to help lay 12,000 bricks and 3,800 blocks.

Any individuals or companies who are able to help should contact the boxing club’s secretary, Flo Hadley, at flo.hadley@btinternet.com or 07768 095245 and leave a message.

There will also be plenty of assistance needed when phase two gets under way in January.

This is the internal fit when the club would like to find kitchen installers, tiling specialists, electricians, plumbers, carpenters and plasterers to volunteer their services.

A number of tradespeople have already kindly offered their labour for free, but similar offers from professionally-qualified tradespeople would be extremely welcome.

To raise more funds to help to cover costs, the boxing club will have to have a number of raffles and, possibly, an auction for more expensive items. The club would be grateful to hear from anyone able to donate a bottle of wine, a food hamper or perhaps even a few days’ holiday. Contact Flo Hadley for details.
