Tenbury tune up for Bromyard local derby with Midland Junior Vase win at Claverdon

Claverdon 11 pts Tenbury 23.

TENBURY continued their fine start to the season by progressing to the second round of the Midland Junior Vase with a fine away win.

And the success keeps spirits up ahead of the big Midlands Four West (North) local derby with Bromyard on Saturday.

“Morale is brilliant at the moment and everyone is on a high,” said skipper Pete Stevens.

“Saturday can’t come around quickly enough.”

Things did not look so promising at the break on Saturday when Claverdon led 11-0 after two successful penalties and a try.

But the visitors hit back and Alex Brazier kicked two penalties to cut arrears.

And, with Tenbury dominating and Richard Smith, in particular, in excellent form, Brazier reduced the home side’s lead to just two points with another successful kick.

However, Tenbury were still adrift with just nine minutes left but produced a grandstand finish to take the win.

Colin William ran in for a try from the wing with Brazier adding the extra points.

And Richard Wozencroft sealed the success with his third try in three games.

Brazier again was successful with the conversion to ensure, in the end, a comfortable margin of victory.

“It was a terrific win and a brilliant performance by the whole team,” said Stevens.

“We dominated and ran away with it in the end.

“Now I just want the Tenbury supporters to turn out in force to be our extra man at the weekend against Bromyard.”
