Gloucester RFC forward Tom Savage earns comparison with ex-England international (From Ludlow Advertiser)

FORMER Bishop’s Castle forward Tom Savage has been likened to ex-England star Richard Hill.

Savage produced a man-of-the-match display for Gloucester in Saturday’s hard-fought 29-22 home win over Wasps in the Aviva Premiership.

Gloucester try-scorer James Simpson-Daniel praised Savage for his match-winning performance.

“I was thrilled with the try but Tom deserves the credit,” said Simpson-Daniel.

He added: “He did what Richard Hill used to, carried hard, made the defender make a decision and got the ball away.

“Tom was outstanding. He was hitting hard, carrying across the gainline and, in the last four games, he's been exceptional.”

Simpson-Daniel added: “Tom can now play second-row and back-row, which is a massive thing to have.”
