RISING star Ashley Edwards has added the Champion of Champions bowls title to his growing collection.
The 24-year-old Brimfield and Little Hereford Bowling Club member beat Martin Smith 21-12 in the Herefordshire singles final at Ross-on-Wye. “This has been the best result in what has been a great season for me,” said Ashley.
“I’ve attracted some sponsorship, played at Worthing in the national finals, and done well in our club finals.”
Ashley was one of the youngest competitors in the Ross-on-Wye event, which brought together the winners of singles titles from flat green clubs across Herefordshire.
He beat the experienced Dave Holloway, from Leominster, in the first round before after edging past Eastnor’s Tom Churchill 21-15.
Ashley overcame Hereford’s John Weir, 21-16, in his semi-final before claiming the title after defeating Smith on his home rink.
Brimfield’s ladies have also had a highly-successful season, one of their best, with their latest triumph coming in the triples format Kington Shield.
Brimfield defeated hosts Kington by 10 shots in the semi-final and beat Leominster by five shots in the final.
