Brimfield and Little Hereford Bowling Club's successful season
11:00am Wednesday 12th September 2012 in Sport
BRIMFIELD and Little Hereford Bowling Club have celebrated one of their most successful seasons.
Club chairman Jennie Cole, a county champion, carried off two singles titles in the club’s finals which saw nine titles over 12 hours.
“We wanted to make this a celebration of the club’s achievements this season and it’s great to see so many people turning out to support us,” she said.
Jennie Cole and Helen Skinner, also a county champion, battled for the Arthur Edwards club singles, with Jennie taking the game, 21-2.
Brimfield’s ladies have won all but two of the available county competitions this year and a member of the latest winning team – in the Kington Shield – was next up in the Millennium Plate. Dorothy Crew pulled away to lead 14-6 against Cyril Edwards and eventually came home, 21-9.
A marathon match-up in the 21-ends Tandler mixed pairs saw Jennie Cole and Richard Arrowsmith up against Helen Skinner and Cyril Wait, with Helen and Cyril edging it 13-11 after 14 ends. With a live jack in the ditch on the 15th end Jennie and Richard struck back with six shots to go 17-13 up. They stretched their lead to nine and, despite a fight back, were eventual winners 22-18 after a three-hour battle.
Dave Evans and Richard Griffiths triumphed 14-13 against Ashley Edwards and John Wall in the Albert Duval.
Ashley Edwards took an early lead in the men’s singles and five shots in two ends saw him home 21-13 against last year’s champion Doug Turner.
And in the ladies’ singles final, Jennie Cole bagged her second singles title of the day with a 21-11 success against Helen Skinner. Barbara Griffiths and Richard Arrowsmith sealed a 9-7 win over Dave Evans and Dorothy Crew in the Barnett Bowl.
Ashley Edwards, grandfather Cyril Edwards and Josie Jordan looked down and out 7-1 down with two ends to play in the Cecil O’Boyle.
However, a stunning three and four saw them home 8-7 against Mike Owen, Adam Walker and Richard Arrowsmith.
Richard Arrowsmith, Ashley Edwards and Helen Skinner defeated Dave Evans, Cyril Edwards and Hubert Wall, 28-12, in the John Collett Trophy.
Brimfield’s Captain’s Day takes place this Sunday (September 16).
