Tenbury skipper Stevens confident ahead of Cannock curtain-raiser

SKIPPER Pete Stevens says his Tenbury rugby side are ready for Saturday’s curtain-raiser with Cannock at Palmer’s Meadow.

Tenbury have not played a preseason friendly but Stevens says his men are raring to open their Midlands Four West (North) account.

“We have got some new players - one from away and one from Bromsgrove and we are just looking forward to Saturday,” said Stevens.

“We trained on Saturday afternoon and had a good session.

“With people away on holiday and working, we have not had a pre-season game but we have done a lot of training, so I am not worried.”

Stevens says the young backline and strong back-row should give Tenbury a new impetus this season.

“We have a strong back-row - we’ve got a new flanker from Bromsgrove.”

He added: “The lad is in the army and we will have him when he’s available.

“Pete Foster is back again and he’s a huge player for us.

“He’s a big ball carrier and causes problems for the opposition.

“We still have some players to come back because Will Morgan, for instance, is not yet in the fold.”
