Ludlow's Lucas family support Paralympic gold medallist Danielle Brown

LUDLOW archery couple Kim and Kay Lucas cheered on Telford’s Danielle Brown to gold medal glory.

Kim is Danielle’s archery coach and has been involved with the Great Britain star for around five years.

Kim’s wife, Kay, was a reserve for the GB women’s recurve at London 2012 and also trains with Danielle.

And the duo were at the Paralympics on Tuesday to watch Danielle take gold.

Kay suffered two balance problems which affected her Great Britain trial shoots and she’s now switched to compound.

“Kay has just changed from recurve to compound,”

said former GB squad coach Kim, who also instructs Kay.

“She had two balance issues going on at the same time and one of the issues is more long-term.”

Kim added: “If Kay had shot two weeks earlier in her GB trials, it would have been fine.

“It’s gone now and we are looking forward - not back.”

He said Kay would now be sitting in a wheelchair when she’s competing.

“Kay has already got two qualifying scores for next year’s World Championships,”

he said.

“Rio in 2016 is a realistic aim for Kay and she’s saying that she will be going for it.”

Kim is a born and bred Ludlovian and loves living in the town.

“Ludlow is the most beautiful place on earth,” said Kim.
