Matthew Bowen is new skipper of Clee Hill Rugby Club

FLANKER Matthew Bowen is the new skipper of Clee Hill Rugby Club.

He replaces Gary Edwards while Dan Romeo is the new vice-skipper for Hill, who host Telford Hornets on Saturday in their Midlands Four West North opener.

“There are a couple of new faces,” said former captain Edwards. “We beat Telford at the end of last season to keep us up and a repeat result would be great.”

Bishop’s Castle spokesman Glyn Morris is looking forward to the local rivalry in the division.

“It will be a good league this season with more competition,”

said Morris. “We have Bromyard, Tenbury, Clee Hill, Telford and Market Drayton in this league.”

Castle will, once again, be skippered by Pete Bevan.

They travel to Market Drayton on Saturday.

John Britton is the new skipper of Cleobury Mortimer, who make the trip to Wednesbury for their Midlands Three West (North) curtain-raiser.

Former skipper Hylton Smith said Ed Lewis has returned after a year in Australia but Josh Phipps dislocated a knee cap on a stag trip and would be missing the start of the term.

“The majority of the team are young lads and I am one of the oldest at 32,” said Smith.
