Brimfield and Ross bowlers finish match by headlight power

BRIMFIELD and Ross bowlers came up with a bright idea to make sure their crucial knockout game was decided in the gathering gloom.

Club members positioned three cars facing the green at Ross in the Kington Shield - and shone the headlights over two rinks so the semi-final match could continue.

Brimfield ladies had battled back in the two triples format, losing one match by one and winning the other by the same score.

And continuing the club’s terrific form in county competitions this season the ladies triumphed as the match went into extra time.

“It was certainly a game I will never forget,” said Brimfield’s Chris Wait, who made up one of the triples with Josie Jordan and Barbara Griffiths.

“There seemed no way we could continue the game, it was so dark you could hardly see the woods.”

The other Brimfield triples team was made up of Liz Smurthwaite, Jill Turberfield and Jill Bowen.
