SIMON Miles struck an unbeaten 62 in Ludlow 4th’s winningdraw at Whittington 2nd in Division Six of the Shropshire County League.

The match took place on Sunday and Ludlow had the lion’s share of the points in a exciting 40- overs-a-side match.

In reply to Ludlow’s 123-4, Whittington were 118-9 when the final ball was delivered.

Finlay Clarke (3-17) and Robin Hillman (2-6), Courtney Cooper (1-10) and Simon Miles (1-23) took wickets for Ludlow and there were also two run-outs.

Knighton-on-Teme were also in action on Sunday, recording a four-wicket win at Leominster outfit Dales.

Adam Grosvenor (3-19) and Phil Hipkiss (2-10) shone as Dales were shot out for 137. Dave Pullen bagged a wicket and Tony Batt made three stumpings. The hosts recovered from 15-5 thanks to Kevin Smith (52) and Peter Hoare (34).

Opener John Humphries carried his bat for 73, while Steve Griffiths (18) and Grosvenor (11 not out) weighed in as Knighton reached their target in 37.3 overs.

The wet weather was, once again, the winner 24 hours earlier and decimated the league cricket programmes in Shropshire and Worcestershire.

Tenbury captain Aaron Morris lives in Newnham Bridge and was cut off by floodwater.

“It’s worse than the weather we had in the summer of 2007,” said Morris, whose Tenbury side host Harborne in Worcestershire County League Division Three this weekend. “We bought an outdoor cage for training at the start of the season and we’ve only used it once — and that was before a game on a Saturday.

“The weather has been awful — it’s supposed to be the middle of July.”

Ludlow 2nd did get under way in their 2nd XI Division One match at Frankton 2nd, who were 43-2 from 16 overs, when rained intervened.

Looking ahead to this Saturday’s fixtures, Ludlow travel to St Georges in the Premier Division.

Corvedale are at Condover in Division Two and Bishop’s Castle host Iscoyd and Fenns Bank.

Church Stretton host Shrewsbury 3rd in Division Five and Ludlow 4th entertain Whitchurch 4th in Division Six.

Cleobury travel to Old Vigornians for a Worcestershire County League Division Four clash. And Knighton-on-Teme hope to switch their Division Six fixture to Harborne.

ÅÅ LUDLOW Cricket Club will now be hosting The Marston’s T20 Knockout finals on Sunday, July 29.

The event was postponed last weekend due to the wet weather.

“We have to get catering sorted and it was always going to bit a bit dodgy last weekend,” explained Ludlow secretary Phil Parker. “We have got a back-up date and we’re going to go ahead with that, now.”

Reman Services will play St Georges in the first semi-final at 10.30am on July 29 before Newtown face Wem in the other last-four tie at 1.30pm. The final will be at 4.30pm.
