Croft Ambrey's Suzanne Turvey takes plaudits in Herefordshire Summer Off-Road League

CROFT Ambrey’s star female, Suzanne Turvey, took the plaudits in the second race of the Herefordshire Summer Off-Road League series at Kinnersley.

The 21-year-old Cardiff University medical student secured a 21-second triumph in the women’s race from Hereford and County Athletics Club’s Clara Evans.

Turvey was 20th overall, while Ludlow Runners’ Claire Thomas gave an impressive display, coming third in the women’s race and 34th overall as a record 146 runners finished.

Simon Norwood, making his first appearance of the summer, was Croft Ambrey’s highest finisher, coming seventh overall in 36 minutes five seconds.

Croft Ambrey team-mates Mark Lamonby, Dave Ameghino and Gavin Wright were 10th, 14th and 16th overall respectively.

Wye Valley Runners’ Luke Mason won the men’s race by 19 seconds from Hereford Couriers’ Eliot Taylor. Couriers’ Matt James took third.

Mason’s Wye Valley prevailed by just two points over reigning champions Croft Ambrey in the team competition.

The Hereford club now hold a 14-point advantage over Croft Ambrey with just two races to go.

However, Ambrey remain in contention with Turvey’s excellent run backed by Norwood, Lamonby and Ameghino.

The next race is at Westhope on Wednesday, starting at 7.15pm.
