Triumph for young Ludlow bowls team at Shropshire Junior Festival

DAN Addis, Josh Partridge, Nathan Baker and Kiah Roberts triumphed for the Flowfit Ludlow and District Bowls League in the maiden Shropshire Junior Festival.

The quartet were in top form at Bagley and Greenfields Bowling Clubs and demonstrated why they are now playing county youth bowls for Shropshire.

The Ludlow team carried off the title after storming to a 4-0 victory — and an overall 35-shot success — in a one-sided final against Wrockwardine Wood.

Addis, Partridge and Roberts all members at the Burway, while Baker is from Craven Arms.

The four lads had topped their pool after beating Hanwood (3-1 and by 26 shots) and Shifnal (4-0 and by 51 shots).

They then booked their final spot after overcoming Newport (3-1 and by 21 shots) in the last-four.

The Ludlow League took two other teams to the festival. Although neither team progressed beyond their group, the players were a credit to their clubs.

Ludlow’s second team, Adam Dovey, Harry Parsonage, Tom Harrington and Ryan Wilding, defeated Greenfields in a pool match.

And Ludlow’s third team, which was made up of Liam Dovey, Jack Parsonage, Alice Baker and Ben Foxall, drew 2-2 and 68 shots each against Bagley.

Liam Dovey, in his first-ever junior competition, and the impressive Ben Foxall, were the winners for Ludlow in their exciting tussle with Bagley.

Results in the final — Ludlow’s players named first: Nathan Baker 21-14 Luke Walmesley; Dan Addis 21-15 Josh Cotton.

Josh Partridge 21-08 Phil Jones.

Kiah Roberts 21-12 Jodie Rutter.
