Scott Moran has the buzz for Shelsley Walsh

ORLETON’S Scott Moran admits Shelsley Walsh isn’t his favourite track but he always gets excited by the racing buzz.

The reigning MSA British Hillclimb Champion heads for the Worcestershire venue this weekend at the top of the leaderboard.

Scott took 19 points out of a possible 20 with a victory and a second-placed finish in rounds at Gurston Down near Salisbury last weekend.

He now has five wins, two seconds and a third place under his belt after the opening eight rounds.

“It’s looking OK and I am trying to get a few points in the bank because I will be missing two races,” said Scott.

“With our family business it can get difficult with me and my dad racing.

“We normally have a week off in the Channel Islands and I will be missing events in Devon and in Ireland.”

Scott won the opening run-off at Gurston Down in 26.40 and was second in the afternoon session after registering 26.50.

Dad Roger, who shares the Gould V8 with Scott, was disappointed with fifth and seventh placed finishes.

“Normally, we hope to be faster in the afternoon but it was only one 10th-of-a-second slower,” said Scott.

“I was pleased and, as always, delighted that the car came back in one piece.”

He is looking forward to Shelsley Walsh this weekend. “It’s not my favourite venue because it’s so fast.

“But it’s a heck of a buzz going up there and there’s always a large crowd and a great atmosphere.”

He enjoys being world champion but says things have to be kept in perspective.

“We take it seriously but, when all said and done, it’s a hobby,” he said.

“There’s always an expectation when you’re champion but I was very pleased for the lad who beat me in the second run-off on Sunday.

“You don’t like being beaten but you have to accept these things happen in sport.

“My sister Marie, gave birth to daughter Lola, four weeks ago and it’s been an exciting and enjoyable time for the family.”
