Joy for Bedstone College showjumping and rugby teams

BEDSTONE College’s show jumping team defied the wet weather to win two of the four classes at an inter-schools competition in Bromyard.

Ten-year-old Owen Jones won an individual class and was also part of the successful college team at King’s Equestrian Centre.

Max Jones, aged 12, from Wistanstow, Ellie Bevan, 15, from Chirbury and 13-year-old Jodie Beddow, from Clungunford were also in the Bedstone team.

Ellie Bevan was second and fourth in two individual classes, while Jodie Beddow achieved fifth place.

More than 120 competitors and school teams took part and Bedstone’s squad have made it through to a qualifier in June.

The top two teams from next month’s qualifier will secure their spots at the Inter Schools Championships at Addington Manor.

Results: Owen Jones won individually Class 2 - 2’3 - 2'9 riding Mr Tupman. Class 3 2’9 - 3’ - 4 Ellie Bevan, 5 Jodie Beddow; Class 4 3’ - 3’2 - 2 Ellie Bevan. l Centre Pat Taylor bagged a hat-trick as Bedstone College’s under-16 rugby team created history.

The Fijian-born centre helped Bedstone to a 33-10 victory over Church Stretton in the South Shropshire Cup.

Man-of-the-match Ben Clowrey was also in top form, scoring the final try for Bedstone, who led 21-5 at the interval against a well-drilled Stretton.

Bedstone had previously lifted the North Midlands Plate in their most succcesful-ever season at under-16 level.
