Clee Hill and Cleobury Mortimer avoid relegation in final rugby matches

THERE was final-day relief for Clee Hill and Cleobury Mortimer’s rugby players who have escaped relegation.

Clee Hill won 21-10 against high-flying Telford Hornets in Midlands Four West (North) and finished third-from-bottom after man-of-the-match Richard Fletcher scored two tries in the dying minutes to clinch their home win.

Hornets led 10-7 after 50 minutes despite an early try from Hill’s Guy Hampton and Craig Breakwell’s conversion.

Cleobury Mortimer lost 15-3 at Wednesbury but have finished one place the Midlands Three West (North) drop zone.

Tom Redfern kicked the points for Cleobury, who were 10-0 down at the interval.

Bishop’s Castle finished in sixth place after losing 8-0 at Market Drayton in Midlands Four West (North).

But Castle have reached this Saturday’s Shropshire Vase final and could be playing Drayton, who meet Clee Hill in a semi-final.
