IN a match reduced to 35 overs due to the weather, Corvedale outplayed Whittington with bat, ball and in the f ield, in a top-of-the-table clash at Millichope Park.

Corvedale won the match by the huge margin of 148 runs and now head their rivals by 21 points in Division 3 of the FBC Manby Bowdler Shropshire County League.

Bryn Simmons (81), Ian Simmons (38) and Ross Mantle (31no) led the way as all the Corvedale batsmen put bat to ball to set the visitors a target of more than a run a ball.

They were never in the hunt after Ian Simmons ran out the dangerous Matthew Mackenzie.

Harry Aldrige (2-30) and Mantle (2-14) carried on the good work, leaving Ed Riley (3-21) and Ian Simmons (2-23) to complete the demolition.

􀁪 Bishop’s Castle claimed a winning draw when they entertained Acton Rey n a l d at The Manor Ground to retain third spot in Division 2, 15 points behind leaders Market Drayton.

Edg ar Whately (25) and Andrew Lewis (44) got Castle away to a decent start. Richard Plant (49) and Mark Griffiths (27) kept the runs flowing and they reached 211-6 at the close of their innings.

Griffiths and Tom Moulder took an early wicket apiece. Simon Palmer (2- 43) and Stephen Mor ris (3-40) kept plugging away but the Acton middle and lower order held on, finishing on 136-8, well short of their target.

􀁪 Basement side Church Stretton did both themselves and Bishop’s Castle a favour by batting out for a losing draw at second-placed Ellesmere.

They finished on 144-6 in the 35-over match, after the home side had posted a total of 171-6.

The experienced pair of Peter Lee (2- 32 and 61) and Martin Nichols (3-54 and 39) were the stars for Stretton.

􀁪 Ludlow 3rd pulled off an impressive 44-run win at Frankton 3rd in Division 5.

They scored 172-8 batting first and then bowled the home side out for 128.

Ian Havard smashed 38 off 19 balls to get the Ludlow innings off to a flying start. Youngster Keanu Cooper (21) and Tom Prince (38) batted steadily allowing Adam Bowen to score freely in the closing overs.

Glen Whittaker (4-17), Robin Hillman (2-11) and Bowen (3-15) picked up the wickets after David Hughes had bowled well without any luck at the top of the Frankton reply.

􀁪 Corvedale 2nd completed a huge 176-run win in Division 7.

They bowled Quatt 3rd out for just 41 after making 217-9 in 35 overs at Burwarton.

Skipper Craig Massey set the standard with 74 runs and received useful support from most of his colleagues.

Dave Golightly (5-5) and Ed Williams (3-15) performed well with the ball and Anthony Walden picked up two cheap wickets to go with his 33 runs.
