Wellington 3rd 154-8 Bishop’s Castle 155-7

NEEDING 155 to win, Castle looked to be cruising towards victory at Wellington 3rd when openers Andrew Lewis (36) and Edgar Whately battered 69 off the first nine overs.

They slumped to 89-5 before Mark Griffiths rode his luck in a hard-hitting innings to turn things around.

Castle went on to win by three wickets and maintain their lead in Division 2 of the FBC Manby Bowdler Shropshire League.

Griffiths, who was dropped six times, struck four fours and three sixes in his 44 and received solid support from Rhys Davies (15 no). Simon Palmer took 4-24 in the Wellington innings.

􀁪 Church Stretton batted solidly down the order to reach 184-3 in their 35 overs when they entertained Acton Reynald. The visitors knocked the runs off in 29 overs for the loss of five wickets.

Peter Lee scored an unbeaten 50 and followed up with three wickets, while Chris Smith took 2-12 and was one of four batsmen to score in the 20s.

􀁪 Corvedale consolidated their position at the top of Division 3 when they thrashed home team Shrewsbury 3rd to bounce back from their first defeat the previous weekend.

They bowled the home side out for just 74 and went on to win by seven wickets in just nine overs.

Ian Simmons took 6-8 in eight overs when Shrewsbury batted and followed up with an unbeaten 35. Joel Leversedge scored 28.

􀁪 Ludlow 3rd gained their first win of the season at Bridgnorth 3rd in Division 5.

They posted a total of 194 and then bowled the home side out for 138.

Keanu Cooper (46), Daniel Hillman (46), Robin Hillman (26) and Mark Burgoyne (29) scored the bulk of their runs.

James Gerritse (3-28) and Craig Simmons (4-23) did the damage with the ball.

􀁪 Richard Whately (22) topscored for Bishop’s Castle 2nd who were bowled out for 85 when they entertained Welshpool 3rd at The Manor Ground. The Welshmen went on to win by eight wickets, with Paul Cottrell claiming the two wickets at the death.

􀁪 Johnny Hill and skipper Craig Massey both recorded half-centuries to lay the foundation for Corvedale 2nd's winning draw in Division 7 with Willey 2nd at Millichope Park.

Chasing the home side’s 147 all out in 33.1 overs, Willey held on at 113-9 after 46 overs with Brian Williams taking 4- 20 and Ross Mantle (3-21).
