THE Welshpool-based Plains Rally was not the greatest experience for the Ludlow Castle Motor Club members competing.

Although the club had a strong entry, members were experiencing lots of problems.

Joe Price rolled his Mk2 Voodoo Escort and, although he did manage to carry on to the end of stage, he retired out of time.

Tim Cains/Richard May were experiencing handling problems, went off the road and were unable to get back on causing retirement.

Shaun Gardener/Ben Innes stopped on Stage 2 with a loose turbo and Alex Allingham stopped after Stage 6.

Roger Chilman/Andrew Sankey also stopped on Stage 6 with brake pipe problems after running in third place for most of the rally..

First LCMC member home was Jon Scott (pictured) co-driving for Nigel Griffiths in their Subaru, finishing in sixth place overall and second in class.

They were just in front of David Howells, with LCMC’s Chris Ridge codriving, who finished seventh overall and third in class with no reported problems in his first time out with the driver.

Dominic Scott/James Bailey finished 49th overall and fourth in their class in their MGZR 1400s.

Cyril Crook and Michael Wilding brought their rear wheel drive Astra home in 69th place from the 105 finishers giving them sixth in class.

Andrew Burton led for most of the rally, eventually coming home in first place, with the Peugeot Cosworth remaining reliable in its final year of rallying.
