LUDLOW Runners athlete Graham Wood made a double impression when he headed off to Tyneside to take part in the Great North Run.

Not only did he take part in the celebrated event for the first time but also, as a result, appeared on the front cover of the Daily Telegraph the following day having just beaten the Red Arrows across the Tyne Bridge.

Wood, the only Ludlow Runner to win a place in the world's biggest road race of 2009, came a respectable 4,837th out of a field of nearly 54,000 with a time of 1hour 47minutes and 47 seconds to complete the half-marathon distance.

Wood, who lives in Tenbury Wells, is part of the organising committee for the Runners and captain of the club's cross country team.

He said he enjoyed the race but found the number of runners very restricting and was unable to run at his normal pace.
