ALISON Burrell's father, mother, three brothers, uncles and cousins all play or played golf so it was almost inevitable that she would follow in the family tradition.

Her first introduction to golf was at the age of 14 when she had her first golf lesson in the middle of a snowstorm up a hill at Kington Golf Club.

She showed a great natural talent then but as a busy schoolgirl she had many other demands on her time to pursue the game.

But, last year, Alison decided to take up the game again especially as her mother, Ladies Vice Captain of Ludlow Golf Club, Hildegard Cutler was also heavily involved in the world of golf. Since starting again, she has seen success after success, winning many of the competitions at the club.

Her latest success was during the club championships where the Kay Ward Cup is awarded for the best nett score of the competition.

Shooting a stunning first round nett 66, seven under par gave the opposition a huge challenge for the following 18 holes.

Talent and determination showed the next day however when she carded a nett 69, four under par, to finish 11 under in total for the 36 hole tournament.

Alison lifted the Kay Ward Cup in front of a room full of members, just as her mother, Hildegard Cutler had done in 2007. Winning the trophy was just one of the benefits as Alison saw her handicap reduce from 31 to 26 after the competition, some 10 points lower than the 36 handicap that she held at the beginning of the season.
