Hinton 1 Woofferton 0.

WOOFFERTON’S defeat by a well drilled and organised Hinton side in a Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division clash left them pondering on the costliness of missing four gilt-edged chances.

Parading two new signings in the shape of defender Simon Bull and striker Chris Breakwell from Ludlow Town, it was the latter who spurned the first real chance of the game on 15 minutes.

Put clear by Nathan Hodge, he brought the ball down well before firing over from 10 yards.

Although both defences held the whip hand, Danny Gower should have done better on 40 minutes for the visitors, when, put through on goal by Jamie Marsh, he succeeded only in shooting straight at the goalkeeper.

In the second half, both sides struggled to break down the defences, but Hinton went ahead with 20 minutes to go. Woofferton failed to pick up the run of Monteath who scored in Dave Cooper’s bottom corner.

Woofferton reacted by making changes and, within two minutes of coming on, Ben Apperley latched on to a lofted ball which the home defence for once missed, and after rounding the ‘keeper hit a post when he should have capitalised with a simple tap into the net.

To their credit, Woofferton never gave up in their quest for a deserved equaliser and, in the 93rd minute, Breakwell found himself seemingly with the goal at his mercy before he was foiled by a superb last-ditch tackle.

A combination of good defending and wayward finishing handed Woofferton a rare league defeat.
