Ludlow Town 3 Bromyard Town 2.
LUDLOW were pushed all the way by relegation-threatened Bromyard Town on Saturday but held on to complete a West Midlands League Premier Division double over their Herefordshire neighbours.
Marcus Sherrad opened the scoring with a sweetly-struck volley midway through the first half. The visitors were back on level terms 10 minutes later when Carl Fairhurst got the finishing touch.
The sides looked to be heading for the break on level terms then, inside the final minute, a mix-up in the Bromyard defence gifted the home side the lead. Ollie Kesterton netted his first goal since returning to the club.
Bromyard came out looking for an equaliser. They created a couple of good chances but Craig Malins was off-target with both.
Ludlow extended their lead midway through the half when the visitors conceded a penalty. Wayne Lloyd brought Andy Pugh down inside the area and Dan Tolley stepped forward to convert the spot-kick.
Any thoughts of a stroll through to the final whistle were soon dashed when Joe Maidment smashed the ball home to pull a goal back minutes later. This geed the visitors up but Ludlow played out time to claim the three points.
With manager Chris Richards away for the weekend, Kevin Heseltine was able to make an early impact, taking charge on the day, after joining the club from Bridgnorth Town recently.
He has been involved in coaching at both reserve and first team level at his previous club, but will have a bigger say in team affairs at Ludlow.
