BURWAY Bowling Club’s Wayne Rogers has won the Flowfit Ludlow and District Bowls League Individual Competition for a ninth time.

Rogers defended the title he won last year by beating Ludlow Castle’s Graham Lane 21-10 in the final – and will no doubt now be looking for a perfect 10 in 2019.

With Rogers enjoying home advantage – the competition being held at Burway – he had to start on -2 but soon made two shots back as he stormed into a 9-1 lead and never looked back.

Rogers had previously beaten clubmate and brother-in-law Duncan Pressley 21-5 in an all-Burway semi-final, having led 18-0 at one stage.

The other semi-final had been an all-Castle affair and was much closer, Lane coming from 6-4 down to eventually run out a fairly comfortable 21-13 winner over Nicky Beard.

Altogether, 25 bowlers took part in the competition, representing either Burway or Ludlow Castle.

Steve Burmingham, league secretary, said: “The committee of the Flowfit Ludlow and District Bowls League would like to thank everyone who supported the competition throughout the day by either playing, marking cards or taping ends.

“Special thanks also to Wendy Davies and Emily Moseley for the first class refreshments provided throughout the day and to Burway Bowling Club for hosting the competition.”
