GOLFING ace Tara Rodenhurst maintained her vice-like grip on the Ladies’ Championship at Ludlow Golf Club.

The 20-year old, who plays at NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) level for the Kentucky-based Lindsey Wilson College in the US, claimed the club title for the sixth year running.

Competing in perfect conditions over two days of medal golf at her home club, the former Hartpury College and Ludlow High School pupil shot a 176 gross to take title by seven shots from Kim Simm to claim the coveted French Challenge Bowl.

Rising star Rodenhurst was part of her college’s Blue Raiders women’s golf team that competed in the NAIA National Championship Tournament on the PGA National’s Champion Course at palm Beach, Florida in May.

The young ace made history five years ago when the Lacon Childe School pupil became the youngest player to win the club title, at the age of 15.

Clubmate Pat Bown claimed the Kay Ward Cup for the best nett score over the two rounds, lifting the trophy for the third time in her 29 years as a member in a competition which saw around 50 years separating the youngest and oldest competitors.

Val Alexander claimed the spoils in the club’s annual Midsummer Madness competition, which saw seven of the club’s ladies tee off from 6.30am.

Alexander triumphed by some distance, her 36 stableford points putting her well clear of second-placed Pam Reynolds, on 27 points, and with Penny Scott third, three points further back.

There are still places available for gentlemen’s captain Alan Reid’s captain’s day event on Saturday [July 7], at the time of going to press.

The event is open to all members and will culminate in an evening presentation and meal, with further details on the club noticeboard.
