HOST club Ludlow Runners made the most of home advantage as they claimed the team prize in the first meeting of this year’s four-race Herefordshire Summer Off Road League.

Jamie Shingler led the Ludlow contingent home with sixth place from a field of 176 finishers in the forested terrain at High Vinnals, near Ludlow, and clubmate Oscar Dickens crossed the line immediately behind him.

With teams comprising four men and two women, Ludlow’s women helped the club top the fledgling table with a 105-point haul as league newcomer Fern Cotterill came home first woman in 14th and former winter cross country league champion Amy Fulford crossed the line in 22nd.

Craig Collier (in 25th place) and Paul Francis (31st) completed the Ludlow scorers in a race won by Jonny Pugh of Builth & District RC.

The second race of the series was staged at Hollingwood Farm, near Abbey Dore last night (Wednesday).
