IT WAS a family affair for Ludlow Castle Motor Club’s Petrie rallying clan as they travelled to Down Ampney in Gloucestershire for the Get it Sideways Stages.

The event covered 50 miles over ten special stages run on the concrete surface of the old airfield.

Son Dan was top seed, co-driving at 19 with Ian Ross in the latter’s Subaru Imprezza, with mum Michele next up at 30 alongside Roger Titley in the BMW, while dad John and co-driver Chris Rudge were seeded 50 in a Peugeot 106.

Dan Petrie and Ross took top place on the timesheets and picked up a first in class award, despite their four-wheel car not being eligible for the overall honours.

Titley and Michele Petrie struggled in the early wet conditions but improved to finish 17th overall and third in class.

John Petrie and Ridge revelled in the wet, climbing from 50th to 17th after just two stages, but drying conditions and an intermittent misfire meant they had to settle for a still-commendable 25th overall and third in class.

The next meeting of Ludlow Castle Motor Club is on Wednesday May 9, 8pm, at the Ludlow Brewing Company Ltd.
