PADDY Brennan has been left convinced there are future professionals and even world champions among his ranks by a hugely successful visit to Ireland.

Seven fighters from the Paddy Brennan Boxing Academy in Tenbury were part of a 15-strong team that headed west for an ‘Ireland v England’ showdown in Donegal.

Three of them claimed impressive victories on the bill and Brennan was proud as punch after seeing all seven of his stars put in commendable performances in a host of exciting bouts.

Brennan said: “The night was action packed with each boxer giving it their all, like a pendulum swinging both ways.

“Every boxer, English and Irish, had been really well schooled and at the end of each fight it was hard to call it.

“It was an incredible night and proved to me that the boxers we took out there are some of the best in the country.”

Among those to impress was 30-year-old Elizabeth Williams, who won her fight in style and who Brennan believes has a future in the professional game.

He said: “From a girl who came to us just to keep fit four years ago, I reckon with another year behind her, she will turn pro and set records, she is that good.”

Also victorious against an Irish champion was 21-year-old Ameen Khan and Brennan believes even bigger things lie ahead for him.

He claimed: “Ameen is going to be a world champion! His technical ability and boxing brain is unbelievable. He’s like a ghost in there.

“He went in there with a former Irish champion who has won 152 of 176 fights and Ameen just took him apart.”

Amali Davies was another to have his hand raised in victory, a win which has earned him a GB Select call-up, while Grant Attwood was unluckily edged out on a split decision after a bloody battle.

Anton Esson, Oli Cassidy and Mason Gordon Brewes also suffered narrow defeats while the night was capped by Brennan being presented with a ‘key to Donegal’ by the mayor.
