TENBURY United joint manager Nick Stocker has his sights set on a top three finish for a third year in a row after their 2-0 win at the weekend ended Ledbury Town’s five game unbeaten run.

But if his side manages to complete the double over Ledbury in this weekend’s return clash at Palmers Meadow then he believes second spot could be theirs for the taking.

“Saturday’s win moved us up to fourth and while a top three finish is realistic, I want to push for second place,” Stocker admitted.

“If we can get another result this weekend then we have to be looking at maximum points in our remaining games although two of those are against Tenbury Town and anything can happen in those!

“I can’t see anyone catching Wellington but we won’t be too far behind them.”

Tenbury started well against Ledbury and twice went close before taking the lead. A goalmouth scramble had to be cleared off the line by the home side and then Mark Boucker was denied by the upright.

The breakthrough came just before the half-hour when Lee Millichip tucked the ball away following a good build-up involving Chris Patton and Boucker.

Ledbury came more into the game as half-time approached and while Tenbury’s defensive pair of Aaron Morris and Gaz Edwards did well to thwart the prolific Dwayne Tyndale, the home side still managed to test Luke Gill with the keeper pulling off a good save to deny Curt Williams from close range with another effort flying just over the target.

It was super-sub Ryan Morris who wrapped up the points in the second half, scoring within a few minutes of coming off the bench when he cut inside and curled a shot beyond the Ledbury keeper.

“We did well defensively where both Aaron and Gaz Edwards were excellent,” Stocker said. “That’s two clean sheets in a row now.

“We also had a match-winner in Ryan Morris on the bench and he’s gone on and grabbed our second.”

United face a busy few days with five games in 11 days starting with the return fixture against Ledbury. They then face neighbours Tenbury Town on Tuesday before heading to Westfields Reserves on the Thursday.

“We have a squad of 18 or 19 who have been with us all season so that will allow us to swap and change things over the next few games,” the joint boss added. “We’re lucky that we don’t have a first XI – they’re all as good as each other.

“Having such a squad is going to be a massive boost with so many games to play in such a short space of time.”

Tenbury Town were due to travel to Malvern Town 21 last night [Wed] ahead of a home match with Kington Town Reserves on Saturday. Their derby clash with United on Tuesday will be their final home game of the season with a run of five away matches to round off the campaign.
