LUDLOW boxer Craig Morris made sporting history at the weekend by winning the vacant IBO continental welterweight championship belt in Leicester.

The former Ludlow ABC star took on the talented Swindon fighter Ryan Martin as part of Cyclone Promotions’ ‘All or Nothing’ show at Leicester Arena.

But the explosive Martin couldn’t match Morris’ high work rate and after going the full ten rounds, the judges were unanimous in their decision with the Ludlow boxer winning a landslide victory.

The travelling army of loyal fans seemed to bring the best out of Morris who was offered the fight at just six weeks notice.

Former world champion Barry McGuigan was among those who saw the win, adding that the bout was the best fight of the night and that Morris was ‘going places’ – a huge compliment bearing in mind that among the other contests on the bill were the IBO world female lightweight title fight between Northampton’s Chantelle Cameron and Vivianne Obenauf from Brazil and the IBO Continental super middleweight title between Jahmaine Smyle from Leicester and Halesowen’s Lennox Clarke.

Morris admitted that winning the belt was a dream come true and he thanks the support of his family and sponsors and the many supporters who had made the trip.
