SHAWBURY United manager Dave Richards hopes his team find their scoring boots soon after going down 2-0 to Rugby Town in Midland Football League Premier Division on Tuesday night.

Richards' team were late arriving due to the M6 being closed, resulting in the game kicking off at 8pm.

And Shawbury got off to the worst possible start when Rugby opened the scoring through Josh Ruff in the first minute.

Rugby were then awarded a penalty in the second half, but Matt Ballard saved Ruben Wiggins-Thomas' spot-kick, but the home side went on to seal the game through Ben Ashby.

"We conceded in the first minute but we then played well and created a few chances," said Richards.

"But we didn't take them."

Shawbury are bottom of the division with just eight points to their name and their task doesn't get any easier when they host fourth-placed Coventry Sphinx this Saturday.

"They have won seven on the bounce and the in-form team along with Sporting Khalsa," said Richards,

"We are under no illusion that it's going to be a tough game but we've got to keep doing what we're doing.

"It's no secret that we need someone to put the ball in the back of the net and help Josh Thomas up front."

Shawbury went into the game on the back of an encouraging 1-1 draw at Heanor Town; Simon Gregory scoring their goal.
