GAVIN Hughes' hat-trick wasn’t enough for Ludlow in a thrilling game of hockey at league leaders Sikh Union (Coventry).
Ludlow started the game well and went ahead after five minutes when Hughes converted a penalty corner.
Hughes went close from another penalty corner and Sikh Union then equalised with one of their own after 15 minutes.
The hosts took the lead with a free hit just outside the Ludlow area and then added a third from another penalty corner.
Hughes saw a drag flick stopped by a defender’s knee and the Ludlow man sent the resulting penalty stroke into the goal.
Sikh Union grabbed another just before half time to give them a 4-2 lead at the break.
The hosts showed their quality by adding another goal just five minutes after the interval and scored a sixth after breaking through the Ludlow defence.
Credit must go to Ludlow, however, with Matt Blount and Hughes both scoring to make the final score 6-4.
Tenbury Ladies picked up a deserved victory against Stourport 4ths in the Worcestershire Women’s League Division One.
Lindsey Aldridge-Bufton and Abi Davis got the goals as Tenbury dominated.
The ladies’ seconds also picked up a 2-1 victory as they beat Redditch Seconds in Division Three.
Inspired by Nicky Griffiths’ return after a 20-year break, Vicky Roberts and Carys Cockayne grabbed the goals as Tenbury ran out winners.
