KIERAN DOVEY’S early double sent Ludlow on their way to a comfortable Shropshire County Challenge Cup victory at Brown Clee.
Despite playing two divisions higher than their opposition in the West Midlands (Regional) League Division Two, Ludlow knew they would have to be at their best.
Dovey’s early brace eased the nerves and despite Clee clawing one back through an own goal, Ludlow were too strong.
Jack Marston’s free-kick restored the two goal lead and further first-half strikes from James Dyatt and Thomas Everall put the first round tie beyond Clee.
Ludlow return to league action this Saturday when they host third-place Warstone Wanderers.
Elsewhere in the Shropshire County Challenge Cup, Craven Arms Town were beaten 3-0 at home by Sportsjam League rivals Shrewsbury Juniors.
Clee Hill United also fell at the second round stage after losing a close game 1-0 at Ludlow’s league rivals Rock Rovers.
Meanwhile, Newcastle continued their impressive start to the Mid Wales League (South) campaign by beating Brecon Northcote 5-2.
Newcastle have now won five and drawn one of their opening seven league fixtures.
