TENBURY United swept visitors Holme Lacy aside to secure back-to-back wins in the Herefordshire FA County League Premier Division, with joint boss Nick Stocker proclaiming it to be one of their best displays of the season.

And while Rob Hill and Aaron Morris led the scoring with two goals apiece, it was striker Mark Boucker who earned the praise of the manager.

“It was a very good performance from us, particularly in the first half when we led 5-1,” Stocker said.

“They came back at us in the second half and put us under pressure.

“When they got it back to 5-3 there were a few worries but we were then awarded a rather lucky penalty and that killed them off.”

It took Tenbury 10 minutes to open the scoring, Hill crashing a half-volley into the net from eight yards as the visitors failed to clear a corner.

Hill doubled his and the home side’s tally when he slotted home after some excellent work from strike partner Boucker.

Justin Halfpenny reduced the arrears on the half-hour but Lacy’s celebrations were cut short when, just two minutes later, Tenbury struck again, Ryan Morris climbing above the header to nod in Hill’s cross.

Aaron Morris then added his name to the scoresheet with a well-struck penalty before netting his second just before the break when he headed in a delightful Boucker free-kick.

The visitors upped their game in the second period and clawed their way back into contention through James Upcott and Phil Thomas with 15 minutes to go.

But with five minutes remaining, Tenbury were awarded their second penalty of the afternoon and this time it was Boucker who found the back of the net to maintain his impressive run of goals since linking up with Stocker’s side.

“That’s nine goals in five games for him,” the Tenbury boss added.

“He’s disappointed because he’s only scored the one today – he wants a hat-trick every week.

“We always knew he was a goalscorer which is why we wanted to bring him to the club and he’s done exactly what we wanted him to do.

“He’s scored one but could easily have had a hat-trick and has been involved in most of the others today.

"That was probably his best game for Tenbury United.”

Stocker’s side face their toughest test of the season on Saturday when they play host to league leaders Ewyas Harold who have won five of their last six games including a five-goal mauling of Holme Lacy two weeks ago.

League rivals – and Boucker’s former side – Tenbury Town had their match at Fownhope postponed and are now without a game until the start of November when they play Malvern Town Under-21s in the HFA County Challenge Cup.
