BATSMAN Glen Whittaker took the top prize at Ludlow Cricket Club’s annual presentation evening.

But it was youngster Josh Williams who was the biggest winner of the night, taking home three trophies.

The decision to hold the senior and junior ceremonies on the same night proved a massive success with former England star Bill Athey joining more than 100 people at The Burway to hand over the awards.

With the firsts finishing runners-up in the Shropshire Premier League, the thirds winning Division Three and the under-11s Storm team winning the Herefordshire League's North Division to reach the County Cup Final, there was plenty to celebrate.

The choice of Whittaker as first team player of the year proved a popular choice, the batsman just getting the nod from captain Will Sparrow.

Whittaker averaged 41.10 for the firsts which included a number of key innings.

He hit two half centuries and his highest score of the season was his unbeaten 71 against Albrighton.

The exploits of teenager Williams ensured he had a memorable night, picking up the Zeeshan Ahmed Award for Young Player of the Year as well as the under-15 batsman and under-15 player of the year trophies.

Club chairman Kevin Boulton said: “It really was a great night and everyone I have spoken to really enjoyed themselves.

“It was nice to have the senior players present to show their appreciation to the junior players for their efforts and the atmosphere was lovely throughout the evening.

"We will definitely look at going down this route again.”
