KIAH Roberts and Nick Lewis took the honours in the Flowfit Ludlow and District Bowls League Doubles Competition held at Craven Arms Bowling Club.

And it capped an impressive year for the pair who were also part of the League Triples winners with Roberts just missing out on the grand slam having been edged out by Wayne Rogers in the final of the League Merit.

The eventual winners were involved in one of the games of the day in the quarter-finals when they won a thrilling all-Burway tie with Rogers and Len Lewis 21-18.

They then met the Craven Arms/Ludlow Castle pairing of Ben James and Carl Bowen for a place in the final and never looked in danger after surging into a 10-0 lead after three ends.

The other semi-final saw Ludlow Castle's Dave Wilding and Simon Lane take on the Burway brothers Chris and Kevin Dovey. This was another excellent contest with the pairs level throughout. The brothers edged into an 18-15 but the Ludlow Castle duo fought back for a 21-18 win.

It began to rain as the final started and it was all about who could adapt to the wet conditions. Lewis and Roberts again started well and led 7-1 and 14-6 and looked likely to cruise to success. Wilding and Lane clawed their way back but Lewis and Roberts took the honours 21-14 to secure the silverware for the first time.
