SHAWBURY United will be hoping for some home comforts when they kick off their tenure at Ludlow’s SBS Stadium against Lye Town on Saturday (3pm).

After exiting the FA Cup at Midland Premier rivals AFC Wulfrunians, United found themselves on the receiving end again in a 4-1 defeat at Shepshed Dynamo in their league opener.

Shawbury conceded within 60 seconds of kick-off when Matthew Ballard’s header dropped kindly for Alex Troke to lash in on the run from just outside the box.

Within another five minutes it was two as Liam Hurst netted the first of his treble from a close-range position just to the left of goal.

Shepshed’s Luke Richards tested the water with a diagonal ball that United’s Jordan Jones made a hash of in the 22nd minute, gifting Hurst the chance to round keeper Ian Havard and net.

The game was up on 33 minutes as Hurst slammed in from point-blank range and despite Niall Prenderville being sent off for the home side in first-half stoppage time, Shawbury could only muster a consolation strike through Ben Robinson after the break.
