CLEOBURY Mortimer’s Marches League promotion destiny is well and truly in their own hands after a five-wicket win over Luctonians II.

Despite Ben Probert’s unbeaten 43, Luctonians were all out for 95 within 36 overs as Harry Booton (4-24) and Sam Evans (3-10) dismissed all bar two of their batsmen for single figures.

The response was hardly free-scoring but Ben Griffiths (34*) found the boundary five times in a total of 97 for five from 29.2 overs.

Improving Knighton eased any relegation fears by blitzing third-bottom Almeley by nine wickets.

Andy Duggan (29), Zac Canning (23) and Nick Evans (30*) fired Almeley to 131 for four off 40 overs but captain Matt James inspired Knighton with an impressive knock of 77.

Tim Gasch (16*) and Jack Kitchen (31*) saw through the job at 136 for one with a whopping 10 overs to spare.

The results leave Cleobury 24 points clear in the second promotion place, while Knighton have a 66-point cushion over the drop zone.
