LUDLOW Golf Club professional Russell Price missed out on the British Seniors Open by a single shot in qualifying.

With 11 available places to play for in a field of 110 competitors from across the world, Price played well from tee to green without managing to finish the job when it came to putting.

His score of 72 on a tough course in strong winds was creditable but not quite enough to make the cut.

Back at basecamp, Alan Meyrick shot an impressive 42 to win Division One of the club’s July Stableford ahead of Nick Giles (41) by a single score.

Division Two was won by Marc Childs (41) with James Toon and Martin Downes sharing second place on 39 apiece. Bill Luscott (41) secured a four-shot victory in Division Three with Bob Burt (37) finishing runner-up.

Josh Morgan won Ludlow’s latest junior competition ahead of Ryan Bullough, while third-placed Harry Watts gained plenty of plaudits for his excellent chip on the fourth for a par three. Bruce Slattery and Georgina Oliver also did well in their first attempts.

The club still has spaces for its Texas Scramble on Friday (morning times and 3pm), Betterball Stableford on Saturday (afternoon times) and Mixed Am-Am on Sunday (morning times). Call 01584 856366 for more details.

At Cleobury Mortimer, the ninth-annual Rainbow Cancer Care Foundation Charity Golf Day again proved popular with more than £12,000 raised at the first count.

Members Sian Hawes and Mark Watson were among the prizes with special thanks extended to hosts John and Angela Gaskell and the multitude of helpers, contributors and sponsors.

Next on Cleobury’s events calendar is Night Golf on Friday, October 27, while the 10th Rainbow day has been pencilled in for July 6, 2018.
