TENBURY hauled their way back into the promotion places with a convincing victory over Worcestershire League Division Four strugglers Old Elizabethans 3rds.

But skipper Zack Yarranton knows that this weekend will be a far tougher test with a trip to current leaders Bromsgrove 3rds.

Not only that but the Tenbury captain will be 250 miles away – on holiday in Cornwall.

“It’s not ideal because Kier Sellars and Tom Gloster are also away,” Yarranton explained.

“I booked the holiday so that I only missed one Saturday but unfortunately it’s turned out to be the one when we play the league leaders.

“It’s the first week of the school holidays so Bromsgrove might also be missing a few and, being such a big club, some of their thirds might have to step up as well.”

It could be a key weekend at the top of the table with the top four all going head-to-head as Hanley Swan & Upton face West Malvern.

On Saturday, Tenbury wasted little time in seeing off a young OE’s side, winning by ten wickets after dismissing their visitors for just 101.

Yarranton removed both openers on his way to 3-29 with Aaron Morris (2-30) keeping the runs down before Gloster mopped up the others as he took 4-22.

“I took three quick wickets and Aaron and Tom did the rest,” the skipper added.

“They had a very young side but for us it was just a matter of getting the job done.

“They had one decent partnership but once we’d broken that up we soon had them out and then it was a case of Andy [Adams] and Kier getting the runs.

“It was one of those days when everything went to plan.

"We bowled well, the catches were held and we got the runs without too much difficulty.”

Complacency can set in when faced with such a low target but Tenbury’s openers did their job with Adams leading the way with an unbeaten 54 while Sellars finished on 40.

“Now we need to keep the momentum going into the Bromsgrove game,” Yarranton added.

“We beat them earlier in the season so we know we can do it.

“I’d like to think I’ll be relaxing somewhere but I’ll probably be glued to the phone waiting for news.”

Tenbury 2nds were edged out by four wickets at OE’s 4ths, the home side reaching their target in the penultimate over.

Batting first, Tenbury reached 214-7 with Chris Giles leading the way with 49.

Others also contributed in the form of Ian Taylor (37), Darren Thompson (36), Alfie Watts (30) and skipper Ben Thompson (16).

An early run out had OE reeling but an unbeaten 61 from Emil Martyr helped guide them to 216-6. Taylor and Watts took two wickets apiece.
